NGORONGORO CONSERVATION AREA

Africa’s Eden Garden

ABOUT NGORONGORO CONSERVATION AREA

Known as “Africa’s Garden of Eden,” the Ngorongoro Crater is one of the most unique safari destinations in the world. Formed millions of years ago by a collapsed volcano, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is the world’s largest unbroken caldera (about 260 sq. km wide and 600 meters deep).

Within its natural walls lies a thriving ecosystem home to over 25,000 animals, making it one of the best places in Africa to see the Big Five in a single day. Fertile grasslands, freshwater lakes, acacia forests, and swamps create a haven for wildlife and a breathtaking safari experience.

Highlights

  • The Big Five – lions, elephants, leopards, buffalo, and black rhinos.

  • High concentration of wildlife – excellent for easy, short-game drives.

  • Rare black rhino sightings – one of the best places in East Africa to spot them.

  • Birdwatcher’s paradise – flamingos on Lake Magadi, crowned cranes, and over 500 species.

  • Cultural experiences – visit traditional Maasai villages nearby.

  • Stunning views – panoramic crater rim lookouts.
